At Hotel Bell Repòs, we believe that every small gesture counts when it comes to taking care of our planet. That’s why we are committed not only to offering a unique experience to our guests, but also to doing our part to protect the environment.
One of the ways we’re making a difference is through responsible food waste management. Essentially, we don’t waste any food at all. We ensure that the food we prepare is used effectively, and that’s why we want to share with you how we do it and why it’s so important to us.
How We Prevent Food Waste at Hotel Bell Repòs
At Hotel Bell Repòs, fighting food waste is one of our top priorities. For the past four years, we’ve been actively collaborating with the Too Good To Go app, a platform that helps us efficiently manage the surplus food from our breakfast buffet.
Each day, we prepare bread, pastries, and cakes that, although still in perfect condition, we cannot reuse the following day. Thanks to this collaboration, we offer these foods at reduced prices through the app, preventing them from being thrown away and allowing someone else to enjoy them.
In addition to reducing waste, the income generated through this platform is used to support local environmental conservation projects with organizations such as the local Naturalist Association Sterna or the Noa18nusos association, which works to preserve cetaceans in the Mediterranean and protect marine ecosystems.
This collaboration not only contributes to a more circular economy but also supports the protection of the natural environment, allowing us to manage our resources in a more sustainable and responsible way.
The Importance of Reducing Food Waste
Did you know that approximately one-third of the food produced globally is wasted? Don’t you think that’s a real shame? The amount of food wasted could feed 2 billion people (a quarter of the world’s population).
In the three years we’ve been participating in this initiative, we’ve saved 535 food packs, which has resulted in a saving of approximately 1.44 tons of CO2 in the atmosphere and 755 kg of food that has been used. Isn’t that incredible?
Food waste has a significant impact on the environment. Producing food involves the use of valuable resources such as water, land, and energy. When food is wasted, the resources used to produce it are also wasted.
Moreover, discarded food generates greenhouse gas emissions as it decomposes in landfills, contributing to climate change.
Committed to adopting responsible practices
Controlling food waste is an important measure to reduce environmental impact and promote more sustainable resource management. At Hotel Bell Repòs, we are committed to collaborating to reduce this issue by adopting responsible practices and partnering with initiatives that share our mission and values.
At Hotel Bell Repòs, every action we take to reduce food waste reflects our commitment to sustainability and environmental protection. Through our collaboration with Too Good To Go and our focus on responsible resource management, we strive to make a positive difference in our surroundings.
We invite you to join us and enjoy a stay that is not only comfortable and welcoming but also mindful of the impact we have on the world and the environment.
