Some breakfasts are forgotten the moment you step out of the hotel. Others make you want to linger a little longer at the table, because behind every product there is a person, a landscape, and a way of doing things that is worth knowing about.
At Hotel Bell Repòs, a family-run Biosphere-certified hotel in Platja d’Aro, we have chosen the second option. For years, our free breakfast buffet has been built around one very clear principle:
- Knowing where our food comes from
- Working with those close to us
- Giving recognition to those who produce with care
More than 80% of the products you will find on the table are locally sourced, and 30% are certified organic, most of them coming from local producers in the Baix Empordà and surrounding areas.
Our buffet also includes options for guests with intolerances and allergies: we offer gluten-free choices (certified by the Associació Celíacs de Catalunya), lactose-free, egg-free, and we adapt to other needs such as vegan and vegetarian diets. Because breakfast should be a pleasure for everyone, without exception.

🥖 The bread: La Fleca de l’Empordà
Km 0 · Artisan · Organic · Since 1892
La Fleca de l’Empordà has been making artisan bread in the Baix Empordà since 1892. Based in Palamós, they work with sourdough starter, organic flours — including spelt and kamut — and respect the fermentation process at every step. No shortcuts, no additives, following the rhythm of the dough rather than the production clock. The result is a bread with real flavour, texture and character, one that connects with the land and with a more mindful way of eating.
We serve their organic bread at the hotel because we believe that if breakfast is the first thing you experience in the morning, it should be genuinely good.

🥛 Yoghurts and kefirs from Granja El Provençal
100% fresh local milk · No additives or preservatives · Artisan yoghurts and kefirs
Eva, from Granja El Provençal, makes yoghurts and kefirs the way they have always been made: with fresh milk from her own cows, raised with passion and respect in the heart of nature in Riudellots de la Selva, just a short distance away.
Their dairy products contain no additives or preservatives. Just milk, time and craft. Each jar arrives directly from the farm, retaining all the flavour and properties of a living, local product. When you taste it in the morning, you notice a different creaminess that reminds you not all yoghurts are the same — and there is a very good reason for that.
For guests with lactose intolerance, we have alternatives available at the buffet. And if you have any other dietary needs, just let us know when you arrive.

🍑 Fruit and vegetables from Jaume Ramot
Local · Packaging-free · Seasonal
Jaume has a fruits & vegetables shop in Castell d’Aro, literally right next to the hotel. He brings us fresh produce from the territory in bulk and without packaging, reducing waste and respecting the natural rhythms of the earth.
Working with Jaume means that what you find at the buffet is what is in season at that moment of the year. No more, no less. When strawberries are in season, there are strawberries. When it is peach time, there are peaches. That is what seasonal eating really means: fruit with genuine flavour, picked when it has ripened, not when it suited the transport schedule.
At the hotel we firmly believe that eating seasonally is caring for the territory, as Jaume himself says. That is why his fruit and vegetables have become one of the cornerstones of our breakfast.

🍓 Jams from Les Eroles

In the heart of the Vall d’Aro, at Can Juanals, Glòria Juanals and her family grow fruit, pick it when it is perfectly ripe, and transform it into 100% natural jams, following family recipes they have been perfecting for years.
Les Eroles was born from a simple wish: to make real jam, with orchard fruit, without rushing and without shortcuts. At Masia Can Juanals, the artisan workshop, the direct sale of garden produce and even a small chicken coop all coexist. A way of living and working that, today, is both a luxury and a statement of values.
Every spoonful of jam you put on your toast in the morning is, as Glòria puts it, “a piece of land, of family, and of time made with love.” Hard to say it better than that.

☕️ Coffee from INCAPTO

We chose INCAPTO because we share the same conviction: that there is a better way to do things, even when it comes to coffee.
Founded in 2020 in Barcelona by Francesc Font, Bea Mesas and Joaquim Mach, INCAPTO was born with a clear mission: to do away with single-use capsules and champion specialty whole-bean coffee. They work directly with producers under fair trade criteria, carefully selecting beans from over 9 origins, roasted daily in Barcelona to ensure the coffee arrives with its full flavour and aroma intact.
INCAPTO also holds ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certification and works on circular economy projects such as giving a second life to coffee grounds and jute sacks. Every detail is thought through with the planet in mind.
At Bell Repòs we removed capsules from the buffet for exactly this reason. Because reducing waste should not be optional, and great coffee does not need single-use packaging to be convenient. We also recycle the coffee grounds in Sònia’s garden, she is the CEO of Bell Repòs.

🍵 Herbal teas from TEGUST, La Bisbal d’Empordà

The infusions you will find at the buffet come from the Baix Empordà, from TEGUST, a project born from a passion for creating sensations and bringing out the best in the aromatic plants of the Mediterranean territory.
TEGUST works with agricultural engineers who select plants and flowers with great care, respecting their natural rhythms and preserving all their properties. Their infusions draw on plants from the Gavarres, the Empordà, the Pyrenees and the Urgell, with certified organic products packaged in compostable pyramid bags, free from microplastics. Everything is designed to offer an authentic experience, with signature blends that surprise the palate.
An infusion in the morning, sitting in the hotel garden, surrounded by nature. We cannot think of a better way to start the day.

🍯 Honey from the Vall del Ridaura

Josep M. Bas is a beekeeper in Castell d’Aro. He tends his bees in an artisan, respectful manner, working with the hives following the bees’ natural rhythms, respecting their cycles and the environment around them.
The result is a pure honey, free from industrial processes, with all the flavour of the territory. A honey that reflects the balance between Josep and the nature that surrounds him: honest, dense, with the colour and texture that industrial honeys lost long ago.
Josep M. Bas’s work also shines a light on something we often forget: bees are essential for local biodiversity and ecosystems. Looking after bees is looking after the Costa Brava landscape.

Why are we telling you all this?
Because when you sit in the garden of Hotel Bell Repòs with your cup of coffee and your yoghurt, we think it is nice to know that behind it all there are real people working just a few kilometres away, caring for the land and their animals, who have chosen to do things well even when it is harder.
The slow travel we practise at Bell Repòs does not begin on the Camí de Ronda or on the cycling routes. It begins at the breakfast table, with a product that has a name and a story, that has grown in a specific place and arrived here in a way that makes sense.
