At the Bell Repòs Hotel, we have always viewed sustainability not as mere rhetoric, but as a daily practice.
Over the years, we have promoted numerous initiatives aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, ranging from energy, water, and sustainable mobility to inclusion, the local economy, and well-being.

Today we want to focus on another important aspect: results. Because we believe that sustainability should also be measurable. 👇
44% reduction in water consumption
Over the past four years, we have focused on water conservation and responsible management, which has enabled us to reduce our water consumption by 44%.
We have reduced our water consumption from:
- 1.7 million liters per season
- to 800,000 liters
This represents a savings of 900,000 liters per season. This result is the outcome of various measures, such as:
- The Green Bucket Project: We encourage our guests to reuse the water that runs while they wait for the shower to heat up by filling the green buckets available at the front desk, which saves between 15 and 20 liters per use.
- The Sustainable Room: which invites guests to reduce daily housekeeping to lower water consumption.
- Greater efficiency and more mindful resource management: for example, water reuse systems such as recovering condensation water from air conditioning units or using osmosis wastewater for irrigation.

Well below the local verage
According to the Catalan Water Agency, the average water consumption in Platja d’Aro is 311 liters per person per day, but at Bell Repòs, in 2025, we recorded just 102.32 liters per guest-night. This figure is well below the average and encourages us to continue working in this direction.
Clean energy and energy efficiency
Energy is another area where we’ve made progress in recent years thanks to our solar panels (if you stop by and are interested, we’d be happy to show them to you!).
Over the past four years, we’ve managed to save 108,194 kWh, as we now:
- generate 40% of the hotel’s energy with our own solar panels
- and 100% of the energy we consume comes from renewable sources
For a small family-run hotel, these figures show that the energy transition can also be achieved on a small scale.

Less plastic, more circular economy
Thanks to our free filtered water system and reusable bottles, in four years we have avoided:
- 24,080 1.5-liter plastic bottles
This is one of the figures that best illustrates how small, sustained changes can have a real impact. This approach is part of a broader vision of the circular economy, which also includes many other everyday practices.

Fighting Food Waste
We’ve also worked to reduce food waste in partnership with Too Good To Go, making use of any surplus from our daily locally sourced breakfast. According to our data, since we started four years ago, we’ve saved:
- 556 servings (1,390 kg of food)
- nearly 1.5 tons of food
More than just a number, this shows that sustainability is also about making better use of resources.
Our Impact in Numbers
Key Results at a Glance:
- 44% reduction in water consumption
- 900,000 liters saved per season
- 102.32 liters per night of stay
- 108,194 kWh saved
- 40% self-generated solar energy
- 100% renewable energy
- 24,080 bottles avoided
- 556 food packages saved
- 1.5 tons of food recovered
Results that are part of a broader commitment
These figures are just a part of what we do. Behind them lie many other initiatives related to sustainable mobility, support for the local economy, inclusion, well-being, and the circular economy—all aligned with the SDGs—which we’ll share in an upcoming article.
However, we wanted to start with the results, because measuring is also a way of being transparent, and because we often ask ourselves a very simple question: what can a small hotel really do for the planet?
Perhaps it starts with this: making small decisions consistently and turning them into a real impact.
