A Step Towards Sustainability and Human Rights in the sustainable hotel in Girona

Recently, the team at Hotel Bell Repòs, as a sustainable hotel in the province of Girona, had the opportunity to closely explore the Open Arms ship, which stopped at the Port of Palamós.

This meeting was more than a simple visit, it aroused deep admiration for its Mediterranean Project, which saves lives with a firm commitment to Human Rights and the mission of rescuing those who are in danger at sea, seeking a better life in Europe.

This experience motivated us to make a small donation with the funds raised for donations from our “Stop Plastic Pollution” project.

The Open Arms Mediterranean Project: A Human Rights-Based Approach

Open Arms has a clear mission: to rescue those who are in danger at sea, seeking a better life in Europe.

Based on international standards such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, International Maritime Law and the SAR convention, this organization works to protect the lives and rights of migrants in danger in the Mediterranean Sea.

Objectives and goals of the Open Arms Project

  • Protection of the Right to Life: Through SAR (Search and Rescue) operations, Open Arms monitors and defends the right to life of people in danger in the Mediterranean Sea.
  • Saving Lives: The specific objective is to save people adrift and in danger of death on this migratory route, denouncing the lack of protection and demanding humanitarian migration actions.

From September 2015 to August 2023, Open Arms has guaranteed the dignity and right to human life of 69,278 people, including men, women and minors.

The Mediterranean Project operates in international search and rescue (SAR) waters between the Libyan coasts and Italy and Malta, in the Central Mediterranean.

As a sustainable hotel in Girona we collaborate with Open Arms

Our “Stop Plastic Pollution” project consists of eliminating plastic in our hotel and selling refillable water bottles. For every canteen sold, we give €1 to an NGO and we have decided to allocate the funds raised to Open Arms.

As a sustainable hotel in Girona we have collaborated with Open Arms, and our donation, derived from the funds of our Stop Plastic Pollution project, is modest but significant and important for the continued support of this noble cause.

We believe that sustainability goes beyond local practices and this collaboration reflects our commitment to global issues and the values of social responsibility.
